Checking In

I planned on posting about Josh's foot fiasco; however, the process is still not completely over. He has one more doctors visit left!!!!

We are loving this fall weather!!!

The other night we got crazy & did some . . .

1st  we Gutted them . . .??? I'm not sure what to call that de-seed? We scooped out the seeds! Does that sound better?

Then we used the attachments for the drill . . . we used a variety of sizes!

They look super cool in a dark room:)

p.s. I have a secret ;). . . I will be blogging everyday in November . . . yes that’s right! I am missing the blog world- Facebook has been sucking the life out of me!


p.s.s. when I started this blog I told myself I would never post about my dating life as a single mom. (I did once a while back - & regreted it!!)
I just wanted to keep it very private at the time I started this blog. Maybe it was because I didn’t want to be judged … I didn’t want you to know about the countless horrific dates I have been on. Maybe, I just didn’t want you to think less of me as a mother.  After all- I would never want anyone to ever think that Josh wasn’t my number one priority. Maybe it was too painful to post about being a single mom? But when it comes down to it, I am only 30 and I still want a family for us. Yes, I still want to meet a (very lucky) man, that I want to give my whole damaged mess up heart to:) I’m not sure why I haven’t blogged about this . . .but I am going to start!

N is for Napkins

Cloth napkins are cute & easy to make!

Supplies:
-21” fabric square
-liquid fray preventative
-paper-backed fusible web
-clear nylon thread
-embroidery floss
-buttons
-rickrack

Press the edges of the fabric square the wrong way twice then hem. You have the basic napkin shape!
Now for the fun part . .

You can line with rickrack- pin near the edges and trim the ends- sew using nylon thread. Apply fray preventative to the rickrack ends. If you are adding a fabric scrap shape or design use iron fusible web to the back . . .this is great to use when a project is going to be washed a lot.
You can use buttons for eyes & different types of stiching~ you can get creative with these!

M is for Makeover

 With my ~growing~ love for sewing, I am accumulating a lot of fabric & accessories! Recently I've been looking for a place to keep all my new supplies.  A couple of weeks ago I was over a family members house & they were about to throw this away...so I asked if I could keep it?!?

As you can see it was in need of a serious makeover...

1st I scrubbed it clean

Then I put a coat of gripper on it . . .

I gave all the hardware a shiny new coat of silver paint

Then I lined each drawer & organized my supplies:)

I is for Ice Pack

Its actually a Rice pack . . . but since we are on the letter 'I', I will change it to an Imitation Ice Pack. I got the basic idea on THIS blog a couple of weeks ago & I loved it! I wanted to make one for Josh, being an active lil' boy he gets his fair share of bumps & bruises. -But never wants to put an ice pack on- I think if we had a pack that was more fun & appealing that Josh would be willing to use it.

 Just like last weekends DIY this is also very easy & takes minutes to make.

1 Pick out a fun fabric

2 Cut out a fun shape, I am going to make Josh's into a dinosaur!

3 Pin everything in place

4 Simply sew around, I was going to turn inside out originally, but I like the way the stitching looks outside.

5 Add some fun touches

6 Fill with Rice

7 Stick into the freezer & wait for the next boo-boo to happen . . .

C is for Chalkboard

Today I am going to show you how to make a very easy Chalkboard Mat.

This can be used as a source of entertainment for any child . . .on a long car ride . . .at a restaurant . . . as a place mat . . you get the picture:) It is lightweight, and can be taken along anywhere.

I am a beginner when it comes to sewing, & this seriously takes about 10 minutes to make!

Supplies:

Sissors

Heat & Bond

Trim 

Fabric

Chalkboard fabric

I like picking bright fun fabrics!

Cheap chalkboard fabric can be found right on Etsy, I got mine at The Fabric Farm.

1 Cut Fabric- I used Rectangular pieces about 13" x 15"

2 I didn't want to pin through the chalkboard, so I used a little iron on 'Heat n Bond'. It did the trick to hold the fabrics in place!

3 I used Extra Wide Double Fold Trim.

Simply hold in palce and machine sew!

I also cut out an extra piece of fabric on the side for a chalk holder.

It is that easy!

Banana Pancakes & Bean Bags

It's fun working at a place that makes a wide variety of  food . . . This was my yummy breakfast Monday Morning:)

So I had mentioned in a previous post that I bought a sewing machine, well I love it & I'm having so much fun making all different things for Josh. I started off with the basics . . . throw pillows . . . then I moved on to bean bags.  . .(baby steps;)

Solar System Bean Bags

I used a think canvas material for the bags & all different colored fabrics to make the planets.  Then I used a stencil & different sized glasses to make the planets.

I thought theses bean bags would be fun (& educational!) for Josh.

They are filled with all natural navy beans

Then I made a quick burlap bag for them!

Josh not only loves his set, but I also sold a set to a very sweet woman in Washington on Etsy:)

I will be linking the shop up here but I just started listing a few weeks ago, so I am still trying to figure everything out & get everything set up!!!

MakeOver

 I bought this dresser very cheap at a local consignment shop.

It was dirty & in need of some major LOVE:)

Me & my sidekick got right to work.

I let him handle the hardware . . .

We sanded & cleaned . . . then painted it a lovely shade of green!

After it dried I added glass knobs . . .

 . . .then lined the drawers w/ fabric.
